The majority of properties are rated 4-star and above and are resort style offering everything on-site. With the exception of properties at Port Ghalib and Madinat Coraya, most are in isolated locations with broad stretches of desert and empty beaches separating from the next development. The majority have been constructed since the 1990s.

Little shopping facilities in Marsa Alam town, a bit more in El Quseir to the north with biggest selection 3 hours away at Hurghada
