Coral Beach Rotana Resort

Opinion

As is typical with many of the modern complexes of New Hurghada, the Coral Beach Rotana has 2 distinct areas with the 1st being a quiet pool-deck area in the main-body of the property and, separated by a barren strip of ground, the 2nd being a broad expanse of beach. Most of the facilities are on a single-level but the distances between them, apart from around the reception and pool, are quite vast. Smaller than many of it's neighbours, there is a broad range of leisure activities that appeal to adults and children alike.

Exterior

A gated entrance on the main highway leads on to a palm-lined drive to the single-storey white main building. A large portico on pillars covers a highly-polished marble-effect terrace, bordered by a neat shrubbery, fronting the glass doors.

Interior

Inside, the reception area is a long rectangle shape with polished marble-effect flooring, clusters of conservatory style furniture and potted plants. Around the sides, there is shading but the central area is covered by an angular glass structure which resembles a greenhouse both in appearance and temperature generated. Adjacent to the main building is the Mermaid buffet restaurant which has a large service area and square tables with cushioned seating.

Grounds

Around the extensive grounds are clusters of single-storey detached and free-standing blocks housing the 304 rooms all of which are surrounded by tidy lawns with flower beds, shrubberies and palm trees. The 2 swimming pools are surrounded by smooth paving areas where there are plenty of metal sun-loungers with mattresses and parasols. A pool bar has a shaded area and high bar chairs. Beyond the main pool area is a cobbled track lined with palms leading down to the beach past the tennis courts and disused squash courts, one of which is now the children's club. The1st part of the beach area is quite barren due simply to its width but closer to shore there are tidy lines of sun-loungers, parasols and wicker wind-breaks. There is jetty and a beach snack bar as well as, set back a little, the Sharks Bay fish restaurant and bar.

Area Type: The Coral Beach Rotana is located at the end of a short palm-lined drive off the Sahl Hasheeh Highway, 27 km from the centre of Hurghada and towards the end of the strip of resort properties. It shares its western boundary with the Hilton Hurghada Long Beach Resort where, at its entrance, there are a number of boutique style shops. For a greater range of shopping, the modern Sunrise Mall is 5 km away and a privately operated bus service operates in to the town. The area opposite the hotel is undeveloped as is the land to the east with the Oberoi Sahl Hasheeh being the nearest neighbour. Transfer time to Hurghada Airport 20 minutes.
