Albatros Palace Resort

5 Star

Opinion

With a magnificent facade dominating the coastal road, this property offers a wealth of facilities within its expansive and well maintained grounds. The piazza style dining terrace is particularly attractive as is the long stretch of well furnished beach.

Would appeal to couples and families alike but, because of its size, some long walks are involved to reach the different pockets of activity and dining.

Exterior

An impressive fortress like structure standing 100m back from the main road in a slightly elevated position, double heighted with a series of turrets and a terracotta facade.

Fronted by attractive, tropical gardens with a wide stairway reaching up from street level and a U-shaped cobbled set down area in to the steps leading up to the portico covered forecourt. To one side stand life-size sculptures of soldiers on horseback.

Interior

The lobby is vast and has a central water feature over which hangs an elaborate chandelier. Deep cushioned leather furnishings sit in clusters on rugs standing on the polished marble flooring under the ornately decorated white ceiling.

Semicircular wooden fronted reception counter stands in a small alcove opposite the lobby bar which has dark wooden furnishings. There are a number of shops and at opposite ends of the main building there is a disco and a further lounge bar with more leather seating and snooker tables.

Doors at the rear of the lobby open onto a wide, furnished terrace with stairs and an elevator going to the lower ground-floor. Also the location of the main restaurants and a la carte venues each with individual styles and both indoor and outdoor seating, the latter creating a piazza style ambience.

Rooms: 576

Grounds

Grounds stretch 800m down to the seafront, encompassed by the 3-storey high wings of balconied rooms. Much of the grounds are laid to lawn with attractive shrubberies, flower beds and towering palms although the majority, and providing a focal point, are occupied by the 2 large pools.

The pool closest to reception is designated as a quiet zone and is crossed by wooden arched footbridges and surrounded by a wide terrace furnished with mattressed sunloungers and cloth parasols.

A far larger pool between here and the beach is similarly furnished and has a swim up bar and a variety of activities. The sandy beach is wide and also has a dedicated quiet area with beach furnishings provided throughout. There is a bar service and an Aqua and dive centre in addition to a long jetty that reaches across the coral.
