Hotels and holiday villages throughout Egypt are officially graded from 1 to 5 star but the standard is significantly lower than that of equivalent European star ratings. 1- and 2-star properties are unlikely to be used by British tour operators and are best suited to people prepared to "rough it".

The main and original part of this property looks a little tired not least because of the sparsely furnished lobby and large traditionally decorated activity ‘tent’ in the middle of the grounds. A more recent wing, with rooms surrounding the pool, has retained a smart glean.

The beach is wide and is backed by a jumble of dive and surf centres which add to the character. A definite appeal to sporting enthusiasts with few facilities for families with young children.

Exterior

This property is separated from the main road by a long strip of car parking which runs in front of the single height predominantly white facade most of which is occupied by shops and a cafe. The actual entrance is reached by a few steps up to the arched, glass feature into which is set double, wooden framed doors.

Grounds

Accommodation is located in 2 white facaded wings extending from reception to the seafront as well as an additional L-shaped more recently built 2-storey wing to the side. Between the original wings, there are gardens laid to lawn bordered by neatly trimmed hedges.

A gazebo with bench like furnishings and a large, untidy looking structure is in the centre of the garden which houses the snooker table and large TV screen. A children’s playground and pool is surrounded by a broad terrace furnished with sunloungers and parasols.

The beach is wide with coarse sand and is also furnished with sunloungers and parasols. A large windsurf centre is to one side and at the opposite end 2 dive centres, one for the English market and one for the Russians. Behind this area is a lively bar with terrace seating.

In front of the more recently built accommodation there is a further pool similarly furnished as well as a health club and fitness room.
