Mercure Cairo Le Sphinx
Opinion
Well-presented and relaxed accommodation which has a light, inviting interior and provides a tranquil haven from the city's chaos - although traffic noise and a cacophony of horns intrudes on the pool area and may affect some rooms. Although comfortable and reasonably well-equipped, its 5 star rating is somewhat over-ambitious. Handy for pyramid viewing but a longer trek to Downtown and central sights. Suits a broad range of clientele looking for a relaxing short stay break.
Exterior
A wide, bright white 3-storey main building and 2 pleasant but jaded-looking accommodation blocks with balconies or a terrace and covered in colourful climbing plants.
Property type: Hotel
Interior
A cool and spacious open plan interior with cream marble floors and columns; 2 lounge areas have bright red cushions and a small deli has cane chairs and tables. A pleasant courtyard style buffet restaurant is opposite a cheery Meditteranean a-la-carte which has a small indoor patio. A peaceful terraced bar is set around an indoor pool.
Rooms: 274
Grounds
The compact pool area has a bar/snack bar, ample loungers, a small neat lawn and a pyramid view. Suffers some traffic noise.
Location
Area Type: In the suburb of Giza beside a traffic-choked roundabout with similar properties nearby; ¾ ml from the pyramids.
