Hilton Ramses
Opinion
A vast, comfortable, well-equipped but anonymous option with a bustling atmosphere in a formidably busy but central downtown location. A huge array of facilities are on offer but it rather lacks charm and is devoid of any local flavour. Outstanding views can be had from the 26th-floor restaurant from where, it is claimed, the pyramids can be seen on a clear day. Popular haunt of business travellers and hosts many meetings and conferences.
Exterior
A huge brown concrete 26-storey tower; most rooms have balconies.
Property type: Hotel
Storeys: 26
Interior
The interior is spacious and striking with plenty of beige marble; a 3-storey atrium has a shisha pipe café/bar under tall columns sprouting gilt palm leaves; a wood-panelled British style pub with stained glass windows leads off. On the 1st floor is a smart modern terrace-style buffet with Nile views, a warmly-decorated Mediterranean grill and a contemporary Indian restaurant. A smart 26th-floor restaurant and lounge bar boasts panoramic city views and host belly-dancing shows at night. A 7th floor games room/bar offers snooker, pool, video games and snacks. A casino is located on the 3rd floor.
Rooms: 900
Grounds
The spacious 3rd floor pool deck provides ample loungers, parasols and a bar restaurant. Suffers traffic noise.
Location
Area Type: On the East Bank of the Nile on the busy Corniche road overlooking a chaotic system of traffic-laden flyovers, and a bus station. Egyptian Museum 250 yds.
