Cataract Pyramids Resort
Opinion
The word Pyramids in the name is a little misleading although the facilities and style of this property does make it an attractive proposition for both families and couples. It is not in the most attractive location but, once inside the doors, the gardens and pool deck make up for that.
Exterior
Standing opposite a bridge over a somewhat unattractive canal, what this property lacks in a general forecourt area it gains the size of its triple height, glass fronted and white painted main building which has a hexagonal design with 2 single-storey, non accommodation wings protruding either side. A simple portico extends over the front entrance.
Property type: Hotel
Storeys: 7
Built Year: 1995
Interior
The lobby is a double height tiered affair with a sunken square centre piece lounge area, furnished with traditional style sofas and dominated by a huge brass ornament reaching almost to the pastel painted ceiling with cloud effects. The reception counter is to one side with a coffee shop and patisserie to the rear. A row of souvenir style shops and a bank occupies one of the wings. The upper tier, reached by a brass balustrade stairway, has sturdy wooden seating, 2 pool tables and a dart board. In addition to a 4 screen internet station, there are meeting facilities also on this level with an evening sunset bar located on the floor above.
Rooms: 383
Grounds
The grounds are extensive with a variety of room blocks including 2-storey 15-room hexagonal pavilions between the main building and central pool area, each surrounded by attractive gardens. Further rooms are located in two 3-storey L-shaped blocks and in a 3-storey wing overlooking the pool. The main restaurant stands in a detached building in the centre of the grounds off a wide piazza. The swimming pool is lagoon-shaped and is surrounded by a wide paved terrace furnished with sunloungers and parasols and bordered by a neat hedge. The Italian a-la-carte restaurant is to the side and features outdoor terrace seating. The childrens playground adjoins this.
