Luxor

 

Luxor and Karnak together stretch for around 5 miles along the Nile bank. Finally, a boat ride away on the W side of the river is ancient Thebes, stretching 4¾ mls from E to W and 3 mls from N to S, where most of the antiquities, tombs and ancient temples are found,

 

Half/full day: various tours (including a camel safari) of sites in Thebes Necropolis on the West bank, comprising the Valley of the Kings (including the relatively insignificant and empty tomb of Tutankhamun), Colossi of Memnon, Valley of the Queens (including the impressive restored tomb of Queen Nefertari), Tombs of the Nobles, Workers' Village, Temple of Queen Hatshepsut, Ramasseum etc; 64 tombs at the Valley of the Kings have been excavated, but only a few are ever open at one time. Half day: temple at Dendera.

Full day: temples of Khnum and Horus at Esna and Edfu; temples of Seti I and Ramses II at Abydos; various Nile cruises (1 to 3 nights). Two days: Cairo; Aswan and Abu Simbel
